New investment boosts capacity at Dawson Precision Components

dawson_tmbRecent investment at Dawson Precision Components has greatly improved its capacity, says the firm. Manchester-based DPC has been manufacturing high precision turned/milled parts for almost 50 years. Over the last year, the company has invested in several of the latest machines, including a Mycenter 3XG Twin Pallet Machining Centre and two Mazak Nexus 200MSY Mill/Turn Centres.

At Northern Manufacturing 2014, the firm will showcase the latest addition to its machine room; a Citizen L12 Sliding Head Lathe which is new to the range and replaces the B12 machines which DPC previously ran on small parts ranging from 12mm diameter down to 0.8mm diameter. The L12 is faster in its rapids and processing speeds whilst being vastly more flexible than the B12, says DPC. This will enable the machine to run at full capacity rather than work specifically suited to the B12 machines.

The L12 has a 12mm bar capacity, 15,000 RPM main spindle and 10,000 RPM sub-spindle. Tool capacity is 6 vertically held turning tools, 4 gang rotary tools, 4 fixed front and rear drill holders and 4 sub-spindle facing static or rotary holders. The new machine enables DPC to cope with the increased demand for small components for the Medical, Rail, Oil & Gas, Automotive and Scientific Instrument industries, in a range of steels, aluminiums and plastics.
