Welding is added to robotic collaboration

Olympus edit_tmbA welding application for Universal Robot, will be exhibited by Olympus Technologies at Northern Manufacturing 2016.

The company has integrated a powerful Lorch welding set to the collaborative robot, which allows companies to automate applications where there is no business case, or sufficient floor space to consider a traditional industrial robot.

The application requires safety guarding, and therefore cannot take advantage of the robot’s collaborative features, but it delivers flexible, robotic welding at a more affordable price point than previously available, says the company. Control of the welding set has been passed to the robot’s teach pendant, enabling welding characteristics to be changed mid-process. The teach pendant provides an easy-to-use programming interface, and its six axes provide manipulation for the welding torch.

Applications include pick and place, assembly, machine tending, gluing, drilling, packing, and quality inspection applications across the automotive, food, furniture, machining, pharmaceutical and research industries. The company is a local partner for Universal Robots, and offers 28 years’ experience of robotics and automation, and welding and cutting technologies. It also offers solutions for larger robotic applications, and sells ranges of Dinse & Ess welding equipment.
